| To become licensed as a clinical psychologist, I will pursue education in a sequenced manner toward obtaining a PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psychology. First, I will start with a degree in psychology from an accredited four-year college/university, such that I’ll have completed coursework prerequisites for entrance into the programs, including classes in psychology, statistics, and research methods. I will later apply to accredited PsyD or PhD programs that have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to 3.5 for admission and possibly the GRE, which may also be required for entry into a doctoral program. The doctoral program will include coursework in psychological theory, therapeutic techniques, ethics, and evidence-based practices, plus supervised clinical training through internships and practicum experiences. Once I receive my degree, I will be required to work under supervision to gain the needed hours for licensure, usually 1,500 to 2,000 hours, which varies by state, and also pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology, or EPPP. Many states also require continuing education to continue licensure. It will equip me well with comprehensive education and training plans, enabling me to provide well-quality mental health care and be qualified to get licensure as a clinical psychologist. |

Such placements will enable me to acquire skills in conducting psychological assessments, treatment planning, and evidence-based therapies delivery. Further, I will look for supervised internship opportunities where I can work under the guidance of licensed psychologists and further develop my clinical skills in the real world. I will also seek practicum placements in specific areas of psychology, including child psychology or neuropsychology, to get a feel for those areas.
