Current Personal Approach to Solving Problems
PHI FPX 1200 assessment 1 Problem-solving is an effective approach to finding the solution to the issues that are creating problems for people. While solving problems a clear and structured approach is considered for organized and effective results. The first step I did in solving problems was to identify the root cause of the problem for a better understanding and the determination of its effect on the people or the situation. The process of gathering information started after identifying the major issue and it includes a collection of past experiences, data, and the input responses from the people who are considered to be affected by the problem. After collecting all the information about the problem I start thinking about the possible solutions and then identify which solution is the best for the existing problem and then implement the best identified solution. After the implementation of the best solution, the evaluation phase starts which is necessary to determine the effectiveness of the implemented strategies and policies. In the evaluation, it is identified whether the proposed solution is applicable and working on the particular scenario to ensure its validity. The solution needs to be adjusted for the specified scenario to ensure that it generates effective results. Increased collaboration and teamwork are the major phases of problem-solving as they ensure the integration of expert opinions and different perspectives for better conclusions.
Example of Approach Usage
In my professional field of work medication errors were occurring at a huge rate. The major problem with medications was occurring due to the poor communication between the staff members during shift handoffs. I have used my problem-solving approach for the solution of the medication errors which includes identification of the root cause of the medication error and it has been identified that incomplete and poor communication is the cause of medication errors. I collected information about the procedure of shift handoffs, and the reports of recent incidents and asked nurses about their schedules and work routines to identify the challenges they are facing leading to medication errors. I created an effective handoff-sharing strategy known as SBAR including detailed explanation and information sharing regarding the situation of the patient, patient background and assessment, and the recommendations. The evaluation of the new strategy is done by identifying the results of the SBAR checklist and properly training the staff members on using it. It has been identified that within two months the rate of medication errors is reduced by 20% which shows that handoffs are effective for the sharing of information at the shift ends regarding the patient and the medications.
Reason for Adopting Personal Problem-Solving Approach
I have selected this detailed, structured problem-solving approach due to my educational background, experiences, and personal strengths. It has been taught in my academic career that evidence-based practices are best suitable for making decisions regarding particular problems as they are based on scientifically proven data and the expertise of the experts. The effectiveness of the implemented solution using the SBAR checklist is based on evidence and best practices for the reduction of medication errors. My experience of working in tough routines and having fast-paced work schedules highlights the importance of collaboration and cooperation between team members. This cooperation helped me in communicating with the nurses to identify the solutions that are best suitable for them for the long-lasting and effective impact of evidence-based practice. My organizing tasks and time management skills helped me prioritize urgent work and find the best solution to perform it.
