Management and Motivation

The motivation of the students to learn new subjects and the courses related to their field should always be the priority of the instructor and the institution (AlSaid, 2023). The teaching strategies should enhance the learning capabilities of the student along with encouraging them to give their best in the results. As an instructor of undergraduate nursing students for the course on telehealth services in nursing practices and improved patient outcomes, I will choose the hybrid learning environment in which students will have the experience of online classes along with traditional institute-based classes.

This assessment will describe the theories of management of the classroom and students along with the theories of motivation of students. It will assess classroom management applicability and learning improvement, identify strategies based on evidence for classroom management, and best evidence-based practices to enhance learner management.

Appropriate Learning Environment

To address cultural diversity in an educational institute it is important to implement theories and approaches that are flexible and meet the cultural needs of the students (Zhou & Colomer, 2024). The appropriate learning environment for the students is the flipped classroom approach as it provides learning opportunities in online classes and the traditional institutional classes. Understanding healthcare technology students should engage in digital learning platforms along with collaborative classroom strategies.

The flipped classroom approach motivates students to share their ideas through the use of some resources or materials that will demonstrate their understanding of the particular concept. This approach improves the critical thinking of the students by allowing them to analyze and understand the topic before coming to class by using their thinking skills and problem-solving strategies. In the case of telehealth studies students can be involved in simulations and real-time experiments to understand the effectiveness of telehealth in preventing health disparities and improving patient outcomes (Haleem et al., 2021).

Moreover, this approach encourages self-learning among the students by allowing them to search for resources and collaborate with peers to enhance their learning abilities. In this approach, students use technology to enhance their knowledge by researching journals, articles, and case studies online and then utilizing them in their class practice.

Logic For Choosing Flipped Classroom Approach

This approach is most appropriate for the student’s understanding of the concept of telehealth services in nursing practice as it involves self-learning strategies that encourage the students to research the different updated resources regarding the implementation of telehealth in healthcare settings and how the implementation will increase the efficiency of the nursing staff by improving the outcome sof the patients (Ozbay & Cinar, 2021).

It will provide students the experience of both traditional class learning along online learning facilities that will eventually give them exposure to technology and the practical applications of the learning. It also motivates the students to collaborate with other students for a better understanding of the knowledge and ideas specific to the topic. This is a flexible approach that allows students to understand their learning goals, gather information, and use that information in the practical application which will create a motivation in the students to improve further.

Consideration of Alternative Learning Environment

The traditional classroom teaching practices have the greatest limitation in that they don’t involve technology in the practice and provide lecture-based content to the students which are directed by the teacher. This approach limits active learning in the students. The online learning environment has the limitations of practical learning, collaborative activities, and feedback that are based on real-time. Simulation-based teaching practice requires a lot of resources, cost of implementation, and time to effectively integrate the resources into the practice.

Theories of Classroom and Learner Management

To effectively address the diversity of the students and provide a positive classroom environment to all the nursing learners it is essential to integrate and understand the theories related to classroom and learner management (Alsayed et al., 2020). A few theories and their impact on management are given below;

Behaviorist Theory

This theory focuses on the behavior of the student by carefully considering how the student is behaving in an educational setting (Sleet & Dellinger, 2020). The response and reaction of students to the particular question or situation are observed to understand the student’s concerns and provide them with proper feedback that will help the learners in improving their learning skills. This theory focuses on the rewards that are provided externally to the students by observing their behaviors like positive for positive acts and punishment for negative acts. The deeper analysis of the student is not addressed.

Constructivist Theory

This theory focuses on the collection of information through self-learning, research, and collaboration between peers (Epp et al., 2021). This theory promotes active learning of the students and enhances their critical thinking skills by allowing them to increase their knowledge through social interactions. This theory mainly focuses on teamwork and group activities which are essential for nursing students in their real-time working situations.

Humanistic Theory

This theory encourages students to include learning processes that are effective for their personal growth and emotional and psychological well-being (Zhang & Tian, 2024). Through self-learning, students can gather information and research the resources that are most accessible to them and make effective decisions regarding their learning process.

Cognitive Theory

This theory focuses on the way a student thinks, learn, and build their understanding regarding certain topics (Gandhi & Mukherji, 2023). This theory is specifically based on the mental abilities of the student in analyzing the problem, solving the problem, perceiving the information, and so on. It motivates the students to go for in-depth analysis of different aspects and integrate themes in their learning process for better outcomes, however, it can not be denied that it is a complex process.

Assessment of Chosen Theory

The most effective theory for telehealth services in nursing practice to improve patient outcomes is constructivism (Epp et al., 2021). It promotes learning by doing practicals, using experiences in implementing the knowledge, case studies, and simulations which will help the students in providing them with real-life experience of the use of telehealth services. These real-life experiments and practical applications help them understand the idea behind the improvement of patient outcomes and the satisfaction and well-being of the patients.

This theory creates a skill of critical thinking and problem solving by motivating them to use their research effectively in real-time practicals. The diversity of students after collaboration feel valued and respected which is necessary to maintain a positive environment in the classroom. This theory can be time-consuming to implement in-class practice due to the resource limitations and handling diverse strengths of the classroom thus affecting the management of the classrooms and the learners.

Theories of Learner Motivation

It is the responsibility of the instructor to construct and implement theories that are based on motivational facts regarding the learning of the students (Urhahne & Wijnia, 2023). The class environment should be motivated and positive so that students feel encouraged to participate in class activities and improve their learning skills. A few learner motivation theories are given below;

Self-Determination Theory

This theory mainly focuses on three basic concerns regarding learning the students have a controlled and capable feeling regarding their actions and are motivated enough to feel part of the group and the classroom environment (Ganotice et al., 2023). Students can choose their learning practices, interact with other students effectively, and produce outcomes that are better for their learning abilities. It can be challenging for the instructors to fulfill all three aspects in the classroom considering all the students from different backgrounds.

Expectancy-Value Theory

The theory is based on two factors including the belief of the students that they can do better in the task and understanding of the importance of the task (Wong et al., 2023). This theory reflects the self-motivation of the students to complete the task successfully by acting on their belief of task relevancy and effectivity on their results (Shang et al., 2022). This theory may not address the emotional, cognitive, and psychological factors of the students.

Social Cognitive Theory

This theory emphasizes that students succeed in the task by feeling the motivation that do better in the task, they observe the success of others and motivate themselves from the outcomes (Shorey & Lopez, 2021). They strongly believe in themselves and enhance their learning through observation and positive feedback. This theory requires role models that are effective so that the students can follow them and get motivation from them.

Assessment of Chosen Theory

Self-determination theory is most suitable for the course of telehealth services as it encourages the competence of the students by providing them the ability to control their acts for better outcomes (Ganotice et al., 2023). They have an internal motivation regarding their ability to achieve the goal and produce effective results that will them in the long run. This theory promotes the professional development of individuals along with personal growth. This theory has some challenges in its implementation including the inability to address all the psychological needs of the students and motivating the students towards self-learning.

Applicability of Classroom Management and Learner Motivation

The evaluation of the applicability of the theories related to classroom management and learner motivation can only be determined through the relevance of the theories to the diversity of students, the objectives of the curriculum, and the content that needs to be delivered to the students effectively. Constructivism is the best classroom management theory for nursing students to effectively understand the effect of telehealth services in nursing practice as it allows the students to engage in self-learning through the appropriate research and use the information gathered in the practicals which will help them better understand the impact and significance of telehealth and how it works effectively to improve the patient response (Epp et al., 2021).

The learning of diverse groups is effectively administered by this theory by emphasizing group activities, peer collaborations, and workshops. The uncertainty regarding the implementation of constructivism lies in the fact that it will be challenging to address the equal participation of all students and the proper measurement tool for the learning outcome where the information is student-specific.

Evaluation of Applicability of Learner Motivation Theory

Self-determination theory (SDT) is effective for the course and increases learner motivation as it gives the feeling of self-motivation by allowing the student to understand that they can fulfill the task effectively and give them the responsibility of selecting their working environment and material thus allowing them to make decisions efficiently (Messineo et al., 2019). There is uncertainty in the implementation of SDT due to diverse learners and learning environments. Expectancy-value theory (EVT) encourages the beliefs of the student while neglecting their emotional and psychological backgrounds. Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) promotes the observational behavior of the student while neglecting the importance of efficient role models.

Additional Information Needed for Clarity

The proper assessment and identification of the needs of a diverse population is necessary to successfully implement the theories. The theories should be focused on the course topic of telehealth service’s effectiveness in nursing practice. The technology evaluation and effectiveness should be clearly stated in the course objective for the better collaboration of students in identifying the significance of telehealth in a clinical setting. Effective research is needed for the determination of effective culturally competent evaluation and assessment strategies that will be helpful for students of diverse backgrounds.

Evidence-Based Strategies for Classroom

To ensure the effectiveness of the classroom and learner management strategy it is necessary to implement evidence-based practices that effectively help students in understanding their course and generate positive results (Sulaiman et al., 2023). A few evidence-based strategies are given below that will effectively consider the diverse requirements of the learners and improve student outcomes.

  • The integration of active learning strategies is needed to help students enhance their understanding.
  • Culturally content teaching practices should be included in the curriculum for a better environment in the classroom.
  • Clear and accurate instructions and guidelines should be provided to the students regarding rules of assessment, class behavior, and participation.
  • Effective feedback should be given to the students to analyze the gaps in knowledge and improvement of the concerned areas.
  • The learning resources and tools should be based on technology to give students the experience of technological practices.

Evidence-Based Best Practices to Enhance Learner Motivation

The motivation of learners is necessary to produce outcomes that are effective showing the successful implementation of the theories. The evidence-based strategies should be effective enough to ensure the participation of all the students in the cavities and practical applications of the learnings. The SDT has a great effect on motivating the learners through the consideration of the basic psychological needs of the students (Ganotice et al., 2023). This strategy allows the students to make their own learning decisions along with their competency of improving their skills through self-learning and actively collaborating with other team members and peers.

The impression of having control over their learning preferences creates a great motivation in the students to perform best in the task and feel relatable to other class members. The uncertainty regarding the control over studies affects most of the diverse students as it will be against their culture which is based on the instructor for the learning purposes. Appropriate goal setting should be provided to the students so they can have a clear path about their efforts and receive effective feedback on the efforts (Vaalburg et al., 2023).

Effective and regular feedbacks motivate students to perform better in their tasks and achieve their goals. The relevant and achievement goals are more significant in increasing the motivation of the learners towards their betterment. Culturally competent teaching methodologies should be implemented to consider the cultural preferences sof all the students and enhance their level of motivation. Implementation of EVT is necessary to motivate students to complete the task by considering its usefulness and effectiveness.

NURS FPX 6105 Assessment 2 Conclusion

The management and motivation of the students are necessary for the improved outcome sof the students as well as effectively monitoring the teaching and learning theories. An appropriate learning environment using a flipped classroom approach should be provided to the students so they feel considered and respected. By effectively choosing the theories of classroom management and learner motivation the environment of the class and the satisfaction level of the students can be improved.

The constructivism theory for classroom management in the course of telehealth services in nursing practice to improve patient outcomes is effective as it allows the students to learn through experiments, experiences, simulations, case studies, and real-time practices. This approach increases their ability to effectively manage the situation in a real-time setting. The Self-determination theory is effective for learner motivation as it highlights the basic psychological needs of the students to improve the level of their motivation however evidence-based practices can be integrated into the theories for better outcomes.
