Nursing philosophy can be described as the system. In which nurses develop a framework of beliefs and values with which they work in handling patient status and making decisions. It also defines a nurse’s knowledge of their position, the moral compass, and the management style of the patient. Each nurse has an individual outlook based on the individual’s practice, previous exposure and educational background and the area of specialization of the nurse.

Personal philosophy is important in nursing because, among other reasons it provides the direction, focus and passion needed in offering care. This has a benefit in that when things get tough, it is easy to remember what the nursing values are which include.

When it comes to the principles of my personal philosophy of nursing, I choose the most appropriate and important values. Which are empathy, patient oriented care and professionalism. They are not only what dictates my day to day decisions but also the motivation for growth in my capacity as a caregiver for my patients.

My Philosophy of Nursing

This is the philosophy that I practice with as a nurse. It helps to keep me oriented to the goal of offering caring and efficient, safe patient-sensitive, and ethical care. These principles define who I am,  how I proceed to improve and develop myself in my healthcare practice.

Core Values in Nursing

The principles on which my nursing practice will be implanted are generally referred to as the nursing philosophy of values. Such values are as an ability to take on the patient’s point of view and the capability to work with patient self-determination. They help me decide how to come across patients, their families, and other staff members to accomplish the goal. I think that is why I want to stay loyal to these values. So patients feel more trustful and secure that we are going to help them make a healthy change.

The Role of Empathy and Compassion

It is my opinion that something I have always stressed in nursing is empathy. The ability to enter into a patient’s suffering of whatever kind it may be, and to experience the same. I shall ensure that the patient feels comfortable to open up by using gestures such as expressing concern.

That is why the main motivation I have for seeking the position of a nurse goes beyond clinical and professional satisfaction. Patients must feel wanted and appreciated for more than their medical condition.

Commitment to Lifelong Learning

These changes are characteristic of nursing, as a profession, I will never stop learning. It is important for me to always keep myself updated on new developments in medicine, techniques, and protocols. I began my practice of looking for continuing education, attending the workshops, and researching updated literature pertaining to the discipline of nursing.

This commitment not only improves my nursing practice but also develops my persona as a professional. It is able to handle the dynamic health care market in order to meet the patients’ needs.

Patient Centered Care Approach

I have a strong conviction that patient values, preferences, needs should be the guiding principle in the implementation of the provisions of this profession. Each patient is different and this model should take into account the patient’s situation, patient’s values, and patient’s goals. That way, patients know they are part of the process and their interests are being protected when I address their concerns.

Such an environment encourages a favorable attitude towards one another. It helps improve interpersonal communication and arrive at care plans that meet their peculiar needs and are noble.

Ethics and Integrity in Nursing

Working with integrity can be deemed as one of the primary values promulgated by the learner as a nurse. I understand personal, nonprofessional, and occupational relationships, and privacy and confidentiality of patients’ information and professional integrity. Professionalism is a strong personal ethic. That helps to explain and support a patient non-discriminatory and courteous approach regardless of his/her position.
