Digestion Lab
BIO FPX 1000 Assessment 4 Digestion Lab The digestion of food involves the physiological process of breaking down the food into simpler substances to improve the absorption of nutrients and minerals including the production of energy (Patricia & Dhamoon, 2022). The breaking of food makes it easier for the human body to completely process the food ingredients and separates the waste from required substances essential for the human body. This process includes four basic phases of food digestion involving the intake of food leading to the food breakdown through different processes like chemical, and mechanical which converts the food into absorbable substances. The absorbable substances like nutrients move to the whole body through the bloodstream to ensure the absorption of energy in all body parts. The intake of necessary nutrients left behind the waste which initiates the elimination phase of the digestion process occurs through the anus. The conversion of complex food substances into simpler molecules to absorb the required ones and eliminate the waste product shows the completion of the digestion process.
Exploration of the Digestion Lab
The main purpose of the digestion lab is to identify the most suitable food ingredients for people to have more energy and an effective daily diet (Bo et al., 2020). It will efficiently assess the main molecules essential for the human body and how these nutrients are significant in improving the health of people. The basic analysis depends on finding the caloric percentage of the food and how it will match with the daily specific needs of the individual. It will also define how much intake will be effective in improving the energy production process of the human body. This identification of specific intake leads to evaluating the serving size flexible to the need and the composition of molecules in the food (Neuhouser et al., 2022). The composition includes the determination of nutrients including minerals, vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, and sodium. Moreover, it analyzes the food components to inform about the healthy ingredients and disadvantages of unhealthy substances.
Daily Caloric Intake
The measurement of daily caloric intake is necessary to ensure that the body is receiving the required amount of food content without overdosing on it. Calories are the energy the body acquires from food which depends on the individual needs depending men and women (Alotaibi et al., 2023). The women’s daily requirement of calories is 2000 per day while men’s requirement per day is 2500. This calorie identification is based on various factors including age, physical activity, metabolism, and life stages. Younger adults’ need for calories is greater as compared to others and people having fast metabolism also require more calories. Moreover, increased physical activities lead to increased demand for calorie intake and different life stages like pregnancy elevate the demand for calorie intake for women to enhance the growth procedure of the fetus (Fernandez et al., 2020). All the analysis of a balanced intake of calories is based on the fact that the human body requires an appropriate diet for maintaining the health of the body and a healthy lifestyle. Less consumption of calories leads to deficiencies affecting negatively the health of the body and increased consumption can lead to severe chronic conditions including diabetes, obesity, and heart problems. A balance in diet is necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Percentage of Daily Calories
The identification of the daily calorie percentage depends upon the examination of Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter in which the required serving size is 1-2 tablespoons constituting 180 calories per serving. The protein content is 8 g while the fat content is 16g in the serving size which ultimately falls down the rate of recommended fat intake. The American Heart Association’s recommended intake of fat is 25-35% to maintain the health of the heart and maintain the effective percentage of fat in the daily routine. Moreover, it also provides information about the guidelines given by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the balanced intake of calcium, protein, and iron to improve the health of the individual.
Pros and Cons of Serving Size
The recommended serving size of Crazy Richards Peanut Butter is 2 tablespoons containing protein-rich ingredients. The maintenance of a balanced intake of butter is necessary to ensure that it does not harm health because excessive intake leads to weight gain. This weight gain majorly occurs due to the presence of polyunsaturated fat in the butter. The label highlights 180 calories which shows the required amount of butter for effective health maintenance. The identification and integration of proper serving size in the intake of food is necessary to ensure the maintenance of health and remove the risk of health damage (Alvarez et al., 2021). A balanced diet ensures the health of the people and improves their lifestyle by ensuring healthy food intake.
Pros and Cons of Food’s Sodium, Carbohydrates, Sugar, Protein, Vitamins, and Minerals
The sodium percentage in the butter is 0% which highlights the elimination of the risks associated with sodium consumption like hypertension. The amount of carbohydrate is 5g in which 2g is sugar and 3g is dietary fibre which maintains the level of blood sugar reducing the risk of increased sugar. The total amount of protein is 8g which helps in the maintenance of body levels of energy, and tissue repair and is essential for maintaining the body’s protein requirements. However, this quantity is slightly less than the amount acquired from other protein-rich substances still effective for managing the health of the human body. It also provides calcium and iron necessary for maintaining the health of the bones in the body and ensures the effective transportation of oxygen in the complete body.
Label Analysis and Food Item Pros and Cons
Peanut butter is a rich source of many vitamins. minerals and other essential substances including protein, carbohydrates, and sugar necessary to maintain the health of the body. However, some health issues are also highlighted when pairing it with other substances leading to increased sugar content which will ultimately result in elevated blood sugar levels and enhanced risks of weight gain (Ma et al., 2022). The food has several benefits including an effective protein level essential to repair tissues, no sodium helpful for heart health, fibers necessary for the digestion process, and healthy fats ensure the health of the individual. Excessive intake of food leads to health problems which need to be prevented by using proper portions of intake and combining with other products effectively to maintain sugar levels.
Addressing Misleading Packaging
It is the ethical responsibility of the food manufacturers to keep the labeling of the food product transparent and clear following the food quality (Moreira et al., 2021). They should not mislead the people by labeling high-quality health products to ensure the prevention of health risks. Considering ethical implications while maintaining the rights of the consumers is necessary for the proper care of the health of the people. Keeping the safety of the rights of the individuals leads to increased awareness among the people for effective food intake. They should include an accurate list of ingredients, proper serving sizes, and clear nutritional information to ensure quality care for the people.
BIO FPX 1000 Assessment 4 Conclusion
The purpose of the digestion lab is to provide proper information about the ingredients of the food to the people for the improvement in their health response (Tomé, 2024). It will specify the regular intake of calories along with the percentage needed to maintain the high quality of consumer health. Providing information regarding the ingredients of the food product and specifying the balanced ingredients is the responsibility of the labs working on the assessment of the food product. Considering the analysis of peanut butter to highlight the calorie intake, mentioning the pros and cons of serving size gives knowledge to the consumer for balancing the intake. Moreover, the food manufacturers need to keep the labels of the food accurate and clear for the effective health of the consumers and to keep their ethical rights.
