Definition of Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is the process by which leaders of an organization set their goals and objectives for the future.  It is a key tool that businesses use to reach their goals, avoid problems, get a better understanding of their actions, and make sure that policies are followed.  Strategic planning began in the business world in the 1960s and has remained a key part of strategic management ever since.

• Coming up with a strategic vision.
• Setting goals.
• Making plans.
• Putting into action the plans that were made.
• Carefully watching, judging, and changing strategies.

Theories of Strategic Leadership

• Mission: Leaders make it clear what the organization’s mission is.
• Plan: Leaders work on planning tasks that include analysis, brainstorming, and managing projects.
• Plot: Leaders encourage and motivate their subordinates to help the company reach its goals.
• Power: Leaders use models like Porter’s Five Forces to figure out how power is spread throughout the organization.

• Everyone on staff should be able to take part.
• Planning for the long term.
• Making sure that the mission, vision, and values all make sense together.
• Building a strong base framework.
• Setting goals.
• A full analysis of the data.

 Leaders in healthcare mainly deal with problems that need to be solved right away. On the other hand, strategic leaders plan ahead for the organization’s future, which means that everyone in the organization needs to be on the same page with its mission, vision, and values.
