Assessment Strategies and Complete Course Plan

The effectiveness of any learning and teaching strategy can be determined by conducting an assessment of the student’s learning and the student outcomes can be enhanced by improving the strategies. Teaching strategies have great significance in effectively increasing the skill development of nursing students in the technology-using telehealth services to improve patient outcomes and reduce hospital readmission rates (Khraisat et al., 2023). The constructivist learning theory can be used to enhance the teaching practices and learning of the students.

The medical reasoning method of thinking can be used to enhance the performance of students. The integration of learning strategies along with the evidence-based best practices can improve the outcomes of the students and teaching effectiveness will be validated. Appropriately considering the barriers to learning and their solutions through culturally competent learning is the best practice. Designing and implementing proper plans and assessment strategies can help generate positive learner results regarding the use of telehealth services.

Theory to Optimize the Teaching Experience and Learner Outcomes

The enhancement of teaching experience is necessary to ensure the well-being of the students and to help them effectively understand the key concepts of their telehealth course and its impacts on healthcare facilities to improve patient outcomes, decrease health disparities, and reduce hospital readmissions (Bhati et al., 2023). The most effective theory to enhance the teaching experience and produce effective student outcomes is the constructivist learning theory.

Constructivist Learning Theory

This theory allows the students to gain knowledge and information through the experiments and their reflections to better understand the use of telehealth services and how they will operate with all the benefits and disadvantages associated with it (Ghaddaripouri et al., 2023). This theory gives the experience of problem-solving and critical thinking skills allowing students to research the topic and evaluate it through experiments. This theory can be applied by using simulation-based strategies in which students experience real-time interaction with the situations and provide effective solutions using telehealth services like keeping electronic health records, remote monitoring strategies for the timely intervention of the healthcare professionals, and online consultation regarding a specific chronic disease management plan (Elendu et al., 2024).

The complex reality base cases were assigned to the students to use their analytical, and critical thinking skills in solving the problem. This strategy is most suitable in situations when patients are located in isolated geographic conditions and the care coordinator or nursing staff has to provide effective care to the patient using a remote consultation strategy. The students can utilize reflective learning practice to evaluate the information gained through simulation or problem-solving strategies.

Academic Rationale

This theory provides students the experience of real-time situations and improves their problem-solving skills by providing them the opportunity to work in situations that help them implement their research findings learn real-time problems and gain experience in handling deteriorating patient conditions by timely recognizing and responding to problems and thus effectively prevent health care disparities (Kim et al., 2023). It promotes and enhances the confidence of the students regarding the application of telehealth services in a clinical setting and it also proficiently increases the decision-making abilities of the students.

Method of Thinking, Learning, and Communicating

The method of implementing thinking, learning, and communicating strategy in the teaching practice is clinical reasoning. It ensures that students must communicate to share their learning and thinking with their peers as well as practical applications of the strategies. Through clinical reasoning, the students were tasked to analyze the situation of the patients, use problem-solving skills to make proper decisions regarding the health situation of the patient, and then implement effective solutions to the identified problems to increase the positive patient outcomes along with the well being and satisfaction of the students (Perdomo & Zabalegui, 2024). Following are the strategies to implement the method of clinical reasoning in the teaching experience;

Learning Based on Cases

To effectively implement clinical reasoning in the healthcare setting it is essential to provide complex real-time health cases to the students and allow them to use their problem-solving skills to successfully implement interventions that are best suitable for the particular patient condition (Hong et al., 2021).  This strategy also improves the decision-making capability of the students in a complex situation.

Application of Decision-Making Algorithms

Encouraging students to use decision-making algorithms in clinical practice by online monitoring of the patient’s health conditions and providing them with necessary instructions and precautions, effectively providing consultation to the patients remotely for effective healthcare responses.

Practice by Reflection

Integrating reflection in the learning process is the most basic level for making students understand effectively the key concepts of the telehealth service in nursing practice and how it will impact patients’ responses (Khraisat et al., 2023). It will help them use their learning of experiments or real-time scenarios in journals or group discussions for better responses and improved collaboration between peers.

Learning Based on Simulations

Learning through hands-on experience is essential to understanding the applicability of telehealth services in the nursing practice and generating results that are effective in monitoring the deteriorating conditions of the students (Charalambous et al., 2023). Effective feedback helps the students to analyze their practices and implement strategies for improved results.

Academic Rationale Supported by Evidence-Based Research

The clinical reasoning method is most efficient in improving the teaching experience and increasing the motivation of the learners by integrating problem-solving skills along with critical thinking regarding particular health conditions (Leal et al., 2024). This method involves simulation-based learning which provides real-time experience of the implementation and use of telehealth services in a healthcare setting. Reflective learning, helps them understand the efficiency of telehealth services in a healthcare setting and reduces the rate of hospital readmissions. Case-based learning implements effective communication and decision-making strategies among students to improve their performance and make them compatible with real-time scenarios.

Integrating Learning Strategies for Telehealth Education

To effectively provide education regarding the use of telehealth services in a clinical setting it is necessary to integrate strategies that are best suitable for nursing students dealing with the older adults who need extra care and health services for their deteriorating conditions (Chen et al., 2023). Advanced simulation-based learning strategies should be implemented in the teaching practice along with the use of virtual reality to make students better understand the importance of technology in a healthcare setting.

Through simulations, students can experience real-time practicals, and through virtual reality, they can see and perform practicals which can not be possible in reality. The flipped classroom strategy allows students to learn in two types of environments including the traditional institutional classroom environment and the other is E-learning platform which gives students the experience of technology and digital interaction with the patients as it is essential in telehealth services (Bankar et al., 2023). Moreover, effective collaboration between peers and group activities enhance the communication skills of the students along with making them competent to share their ideas and opinions regarding certain healthcare problems and their efficient solutions.

Reflective learning helps students at a larger scale gain real-time experience and outcomes sof their learnings and use them in group discussions and other collaborations to effectively deliver ideas to improve learning (Veine et al., 2020). Technology-integrated students are most important for students to implement the ethical and legal considerations of the telehealth services, techniques, and principles associated with the implementation of telehealth services in the clinical setting.

Identification of Assumptions

All the strategies are based on the assumption that adult learners prefer practical learning and are more motivated in the real-time application of the information they gained through research. It is the assumption that nursing students will learn best through experiences and reflections and learning through collaboration increases the exposure of the students and improves learning by providing them a platform to share ideas and implement interventions (Flaubert et al., 2021). It is assumed that students are reduced and effectively considerate about the learning of technology along with clinical reasoning.

Evidence-Based Best Practices for Classroom and Learner Management

Classroom management is necessary to ensure that students are effectively collaborating regarding their learning and do not indulge in any kind of discrimination like diversity in the culture to prevent a negative and conflicted environment in the classrooms (Wilkins et al., 2022). The conflicts in the class can also affect the teaching strategies and the motivation of the students to learn and implement telehealth services proficient in the nursing practice. A few mentioned evidence strategies are given below to enhance the management of the learners and the classrooms;

  • Active learning strategies help the student to improve their base knowledge by providing them the platform to participate in problem-solving and group-based activities.
  • Active and passive learning strategies need to be implemented to engage all the students in the experience-gaining process.
  • Differentiated instructions are important to understand the educational demands of a culturally diverse student population.
  • Integration of various learning styles and teaching practices in the classroom to increase the knowledge of the students and help them understand the course effectively.
  • Regular, timely, and accurate feedback should be provided to the students to evaluate their learning and methods to eliminate the learning gaps.
  • Open communication in the classroom can improve the participation of the students in group activities and give them confidence in decision-making.
  • The learning should be based on advanced technological practice thus improving the foundational technology knowledge of the students.

Barriers to Learning in Nursing and Healthcare Education

The development of the teaching strategies and any curriculum needs the analysis of barriers in the way of effective implementation of learner motivation and classroom management strategies (Hoebes & Ashipala, 2023). The effective response of any learning activity can be measured by identifying the number of students who benefited from that particular strategy. The few barriers to learning are given below;

Technological Barriers

The most important barrier to delivering the course of telehealth services to students is the technological barrier. Students come from different backgrounds having various educational backgrounds and sometimes they are unable to understand advanced level technology without making the base knowledge strong.

Communication Barriers

Communication is the first way through which students connect with the instructor or fellow students. Effective communication can be ensured by understanding the cultural background of the student and the efficient plain simple language that is easily understood by them.

Learning Style Difference

Cultural diversity and different educational backgrounds demand different learning and teaching styles so that the students can better understand the information and knowledge they are gaining through the institute and effectively implement that information in their practicals while understanding the impact of telehealth services.

Financial Barriers

Financial barriers hold great significance in the way of delivering effective education to students. Students come from different backgrounds and have different financial situations and some may not be able to afford technological study. The cost of other educational requirements including textbooks, and printings is additional which exacerbates the financial situation.

Socioeconomic Barriers

Different cultural backgrounds including various beliefs, religions, and so on are the greatest barrier in the way of learning opportunities. Lack of necessary access to resources and community support also creates hindrances in the way of learning.

Knowledge Gaps

Lack of data on the cultural background of the students including their preferred learning styles and demographics. Insufficient data regarding the instructional methods for the diverse needs of the students. Limited understanding of the technology-related knowledge and foundation of students and lack of information regarding the mental health of the students. Limited data about the socioeconomic factors of the students and accessibility of the students to the particular resources.

Integrating Cultural Competence in Nursing Education

A culturally competent curriculum should be designed and implemented to ensure that the cultural preferences of all the students are included in the educational plan for improved outcomes and performance of the students. A few methods to integrate culturally competent instruction in education are given below;

Cultural Competent Curriculum

The curriculum design and development should be culturally competent which will address the cultural demands and needs of every student along with the class environment management that is based on different learning styles and instruction methods for the students to improve their understanding of the impact of telehealth services in the nursing practice, its benefits and disadvantages and how it can be used to reduce the rate of hospital readmits and prevent health disparities (Licen & Prosen, 2023). It can also be used to improve patients by effectively responding to deteriorating patient conditions.

Effective Teaching Strategies

Simulation-based learning focuses on providing knowledge and information to the students through hands-on activities, case studies, or real-time situations through the lens of culturally competent fellow students’ collaborations (Ghasemi et al., 2020). Implementing teaching methods that help students enhance their learning and improve their practical applications in real-time healthcare settings without any discrimination based on culture.

Evaluation of the Learning

The proper standardized assessment evaluation strategies should be implemented so that the students can effectively identify the gaps in their learning and eliminate those gaps through the culturally competent collaboration of the instructors and fellow students (Kim & Im, 2024). The excellent, timely evaluation helps the students understand the lackings in their learning timely without risking their educational academic year.

Staff Training and Professional Development

The training of the staff and the instructor to effectively implement culture-based teaching methods in their classrooms and maintain the environment of the classroom effectively by considering the interests and preferences of all the students and removing discrimination that can be created based on culturally different factors.

Support from Institutions and Policies

A great effect in the classroom and educational environment can be created if the organization and the institutions implement strategies and policies that are based on cultural diversity considering the different backgrounds of the students and providing them with effective curricula and policies that address the needs of all the students.

Developing a Teaching Plan

The teaching plan needs to be based on the effective implementation of strategies and policies that will improve the performance of students belonging to culturally diverse backgrounds and requirements (Gradellini et al., 2021). The learning objectives of the teaching plan should consider the importance of cultural competency in the course of telehealth services. The identification of the cultural barriers and application of enhanced communication strategies should be the major part of the teaching plan. The evaluation of all the implementations will identify the effectiveness of the teaching plan in increasing the motivation of the students and improving the learning outcomes.

The curriculum needs to be culturally competent and include subjects, and topics that are understandable by all the students without any discriminating factor. Telehealth services need cultural competency strategies that can positively improve the outcomes of the students and increase their participation in classroom activities. The proper identification of cultural barriers is needed to understand the requirements of the students regarding educational preferences. Improved telehealth communication strategies need to be addressed and implemented in the teaching plan for the effective and improved response of the students. A proper understanding of the cultural norms, beliefs, and values should be considered while developing a teaching plan.

Standardized evaluation of the strategies implemented in the teaching plan should be conducted to identify the uncertainties and the knowledge gaps along with the effective feedback and assessment of the student learning from the teaching plan implemented (Santos et al., 2022). The implemented teaching strategies should be active learning, case study scenarios, role-playing, and simulations which can be evaluated through pre-assessment, ongoing assessment, and post-assessment.

Meaningful and Appropriate Assessments

The assessments that need to be created in the course of cultural competency in telehealth services should include tasks that are based on real-world situations, practicals based on culturally competent scenarios, and simulation-based activities to help students better understand the concept of the course and effectively implement those concepts in the healthcare setting (Kececi̇ et al., 2022). A few assessment methods are given below;

  • In case study scenarios students should be provided with real-world tasks and asked to use their problem-solving and critical thinking skills to find solutions to the problem.
  • Simulations based on role-play should be conducted in which students were tasked to consult through telehealth services with the patient regarding a health condition.
  • The reflective activities of the students should be properly documented and need to be evaluated based on the clarity of the information and in-depth analysis.
  • Appropriate tests and quizzes should be conducted to evaluate the learnings of the students regarding telehealth implementation.
  • Assign group tasks to the students of developing consultation plans for the patient through effective communication.

NURS FPX 6105 Assessment 4 Conclusion

Effective teaching strategies and methodologies need to be implemented in the educational practice that can proficiently address the cultural diversity of the students and provide them with a positive and collaborative classroom environment for open communication and improved performance of nursing students. The constructivist theory has a significant importance in providing education to students that is based on experimental knowledge and enhances the ability of students to understand the impact of telehealth services (Ghaddaripouri et al., 2023).

The clinical reasoning method needs to be implemented for learning and communicating effectively. Effective teaching strategies should be implemented in the healthcare setting to increase the performance of the students and provide them with a culturally competent environment. Best practices based on evidence for classroom management and student motivation should be included in the teaching strategies. Learning barriers should be removed by involving the cultural compliance factors for better outcomes. The teaching plan should also address the cultural needs and limitations of all the students and concur meaningful assessments for better student outcomes.
