Applying the Tripartite Model

Nursing educators hold great significance in the proper education and training of future nurses for better patient outcomes and improved organizational healthcare facilities (Flaubert et al., 2021). The tripartite model is based on three basic components including teaching, service, and scholarship. These three components are used to evaluate the expertise of an educator in adopting the teaching, methodologies that will enhance the knowledge of the nursing students along with activities that are used to improve the competency of the students.

This model also identifies how an educator would participate in healthcare services, community programs, and professional agencies to understand the contribution to the healthcare organizations and nursing knowledge of the students. The publishing of articles or scholarly journals also helps the educator in providing effective knowledge to the students. This assessment focused on the role of nurse educators and the ability of educators to meet the criteria of the tripartite model.

Nurse Educator Role

The tripartite model will address the expertise of clinical nurse educators (CNE) in teaching, service, and scholarship. CNE works in an acute care unit in an academic-affiliated hospital. The educator is responsible for providing effective education to the nursing students to enhance their abilities and expertise in efficient patient dealing and improving the health outcomes of the patient (Ghasemi et al., 2020). This role will encourage students to participate in evidence-based practices along with the practice activities to influence clinical development and progress.

Providing simulations to the students to give them an impression of real-time practice and involve them in the process of making decisions regarding deteriorating patient conditions helps them develop their skills in effective management of the patients and careful utilization of the healthcare resources and efficiently preventing the healthcare disparities. The clinical educator will collaborate with healthcare professionals, cynical practitioners, and interdisciplinary teams to provide quality education to the students along with the experience of real-time situations to improve their mental abilities and make them competent enough to deal with today’s healthcare information technologies.

Moreover, the educator will be responsible for conducting workshops and experiments that help demonstrate the situations regarding patient health and strategies to carefully and efficiently handle those situations without any discrimination or harmful health events (Mukurunge et al., 2021). Proper instructions, evaluation, and feedback should be given to the students to understand the lacking and suggest ways to improve. Implement teaching strategies that are more advanced and make students aware of the new healthcare advancements.

Teaching, Service, and Scholarship Expectations

The clinical educator is responsible for making students competent and confident in dealing with real-time health situations effectively and efficiently by introducing educational activities, and strategies based on practices that are evidence and scientifically authentic in enhancing the skills of the nursing students (Gcawu & Rooyen, 2022). The educator is responsible for designing and developing clinical practice workshops that will help the students in the long run and introduce initiatives that will help improve the quality of education and information provided to the students. The evaluation of expectations related to the tripartite model is given below;

Evaluation of Teaching Expectations

The educator is responsible for preparing students for the real-world clinical setting and effective performance in handling and managing healthcare situations (Soroush et al., 2021). The educator should innovate ideas to teach nursing students how to enhance the standard of care offered to the patients along with effective communication strategies to clearly and accurately understand the healthcare needs of the patient. To understand the effective teaching methodology of the educator let’s consider an example in which the instructor developed a program that will detect the symptoms of sepsis in patients earlier. It will be based on training sessions, workshops, simulations, and learning practices through real-time situations to develop the skill of making the right decision at the right time. This program will have a significant impact on the students and will increase the efficiency of the students in dealing with sepsis in a real-time clinical setting.

Evaluation of Service Expectations

The nurse educator is responsible for participating in the organizations and healthcare communities to help the staff and the healthcare professionals in effectively dealing with health disparity and deteriorating patient conditions. They can take part in managing disastrous health conditions, improving healthcare quality standards, and strategies to successfully implement healthcare information technology in the clinical setting (Flaubert et al., 2021). To effectively understand the service expectations of the educator consider an example of an educator leading a care coordination initiative for the refugees of Venezuela having vulnerable older adults with type 2 diabetes. Through the collaboration of interdisciplinary teams, the development of a coordinated care plan, and the identification of resources that will be useful in providing health facilities to the refugees the educator can successfully implement the coordinated care plan and reduce the rate of health disparities.

Evaluation of Scholarship Expectations

The educator should be engaged in scholarly practices to improve the exposure, knowledge, and skill level of the nursing students (Gcawu &  Rooyen, 2022). The educator should publish articles, conduct research, and implement evidence-based practices through an effective and authentic research strategy to provide valid information to the students. The CNE consulted research on the use of telehealth services for elderly patients with type 2 diabetes located in a rural community with an ineffective transportation system. This service will improve their coordination with the healthcare providers and increase the quality of health.

A Plan for Meeting Each Aspect of the Tripartite Model

 The nurse educator needs to effectively integrate the evaluation practices of the tripartite model in delivering education to the students along with practicing in healthcare organizations or publishing journals (Phillips et al., 2019). The goal and actions from the three perspectives of the Tripartite model are given below;

Teaching

The goal of teaching is to improve the expertise of nursing students by providing education that is updated and competent to meet the health effectiveness criteria of today’s world (Torbjornsen et al., 2021). To achieve this goal educators need to implement strategies or introduce initiatives based on the most critical topics of the healthcare facilities including providing effective care coordination to vulnerable patients, early recognition and responding to deteriorating health conditions, and use of electronic record systems to keep the information of the patient safe. Adopt different teaching methodologies that are more interactive and engaging and collaborate new students with experienced graduates for a better understanding of the students.

Service

The goal of educator service is to participate in healthcare organizations and nursing agencies to help them in interdisciplinary collaborations, quality improvement initiatives, and enhancing clinical practices by providing leadership, participating in decision-making, and implementing evidence-based practices. Practice as a care coordinator leader for the refugees of Venezuela to lead the implementation of the care coordination plan ( Greene et al., 2024). Participating as a care coordinator in developing management plans and strategies for older adults having diabetes of type 2.

Scholarship

The participation of educators in article publishing or other scholarly practices will improve the knowledge of nursing students (Baixinho et al., 2022). Involving in the research will identify the effectiveness of telehealth services in providing coordinated care to older adults who are unable to pay hospital visits regularly and have isolated geographic locations. This research after publishing will help nursing students understand the efficiency of telehealth services and the advantages and disadvantages connected with that service.

Professional Implications for Unaddressed Element of Model

The lack of effective teaching results in the poor understanding of the nursing student about patient care and safety which will eventually impact their healthcare practice competency  (Farokhzadian et al., 2024). Unaddressed service results in educators introducing initiatives and deciding the effectiveness of care coordination practices and other healthcare services. Ignorance in scholarship will put a stop to improving healthcare facilities and create a way of gaining new and advanced knowledge for nursing students.

Multiple Opportunities for a Scholarship

The clinical nurse educator working in an acute care unit can publish scholarly work on improving the quality and safety of patients in acute health conditions (Mistri et al., 2023). The safety and quality of health of the patient is the most fundamental goal of every healthcare organization which can be achieved through the appropriate practice of scholarly activities. The scholarly practices enhance the expertise of the educator which will eventually generate a positive impact on the students.  A few scholarly opportunities involved with the fact of taking care of patients effectively in acute care settings are given below;

  • Conducting research on the health quality improvement of the patients along with providing effective safety for enhanced patient experience and well-being (Adams et al., 2024). This can be done by authentic journals or case studies.
  • Establishing programs to educate the nursing staff regarding the provision of quality and safety to the patients and promoting advanced technologies for better patient outcomes.
  • Inventing quality standards that are applicable in enhancing the quality of care to the patients by researching articles and journals.
  • Improving teaching practices through the involvement of technology in educational programs.
  • Conducting research based on the collaboration of interdisciplinary teams and effective opinion sharing of the experienced members.

Qualification Evaluation for Nurse Educator Role

 The qualification that can be used by the educator to act as a change agent in the healthcare setting can be evaluated by the integration of advanced knowledge technologies in the healthcare setting (Jeffries et al., 2022). This will involve the implementation of advanced care settings, improved quality standards, and practices based on scientifically proven evidence for the enhanced patient experience. The expertise of educators helps in identifying the lack of practice, early interventions of the healthcare professionals and stakeholders, and preventing deterioration of health conditions by providing effective healthcare needs. Effective and transparent communication skills are important in sharing ideas, making unified decisions, and implementing new strategies with a focus on improving patient experience and the well-being of the patients.

Moreover, leadership practices and the efficiency in implementing evidence-based practices are one of the main traits of educators in ensuring an effective change in the healthcare setting and improving the satisfaction level of the patients (Santos et al., 2022). Effective leadership will enhance the professional development of the students by providing proficient mentorship and guidance. Evidence-based practices help improve the standard of safety  provided to patients by implementing strategies that are scientifically proven and validated for their effectiveness. The skill of management acts as a cornerstone in bringing any change to the healthcare setting and ensuring the success of that plan. In the implementation of sustainable strategies and practices for the betterment of the patients and the healthcare setting educators need to be responsible and competent in their work.

NURS FPX 6103 Assessment 2 Conclusion

The tripartite model is based on three basic components including teaching, service, and scholarship that are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the clinical nurse educator working in an acute care unit (Adler & Sickora, 2023). The educators are responsible for inventing and implementing strategies that are most suitable for generating positive patient outcomes and improving the care provided to the patients by teaching the students effective technology-based practices and methods based on evidence that is authentic and proven. The educator through publishing articles based on the use of healthcare information technologies in the care setting can increase awareness among the students regarding the implementation of a technological strategy to increase the effectiveness of the treatment provided to the patients and the wellbeing of the staff.
